central park’s north woods

gr2’s fourth grade class had a field trip to central park’s north woods. i didn’t realize there were woods to walk through in central park! i chaperoned the trip with a few other parents. from school we took the subway to 103rd street.

their teacher couldn’t have picked a more beautiful, fall day–not windy, not cold, just right.

we walked past the pond and ducks…

and left the city behind once we walked under the bridge/archway.

their teacher asked us to not speak and to listen to what was around us. there were birds, rustling leaves and the sound of running water… and a handful of not so quiet kids ; )

we broke out into groups a couple of times to explore. the kids took notes and drew.

we walked along the water. it was a little hilly with paths to explore. it felt like we dropped out of the city if just for a little while.
